Learning Audio

Learning Audio Series
It’s ridiculous, personalities, people try to explain audio and yet they omit the important details. These extra-ordinarily complex things are what I discuss and explain. It comes down so often to terms that you slowly begin to understand. If you begin to have a lexicon of terms that make sense to you, then you will begin to speak a language, helping you to enter into the complex world of audio.

Audio Production Tutorials

Adding Extras to Clean Vocals
After you have post processed your vocals to make them sound good and commercial than likely you want to try various methods to make them sound perfect. That can mean things like damage; and various styles of filtering that emphasize clarity and sometimes even add distortion.
Initial Audio 808 Bass Studio 2 Vs FAW Sublab
FAW Sublab is a very popular 808 solution for creating production ready material. I compare FAW Sublab to Initial Audio’s 808 Bass Studio 2.
Mastering 808 Bass samples for production or resale
It’s peculiar, because 808 bass samples that are popularly released by youtube personalities are somehow free of clicks and distortion. And yet even if you follow their tutorials, how is it that your samples will not sound so smooth? I shed the onionskin and explain exactly how to do that in FL Studio’s Edison (works in FL Studio 11+).
Using DSPplug plug-ins (vocals, etc)
There are many great plug-ins out there. Sometimes DSPplug plug-ins seem better, and other times they’re the equivelant of very well made plug-ins which probably cost more.

Video Production Tutorials

Video Production Techniques
Making video for a sound designer who wishes to make more money is a daunting task. It’s something that’s challenging and technical. If you’re really serious about making professional content; often the free products are better. Those products are mentioned in this series of posts, as well as free video filters and OBS tutorials.

Computer Configuration and System Modification

Make your PC Fans quiter for recording
It makes a lot of sense to have knobs with which to make your fans quieter during recording.
Robert Langford goes over various brands and the exact method employed for the DSPplug company PC.
Seagate Skyhawk a mechanical HDD contender
Mechanical HDD’s make sense to have. They’re reliable, they have longevity and yet;
which has the best bang for the buck? While this guide was written, the Seagate Skyhawk was the most profound choice with a very reasonable price, having the highest possible speed and rating at nearly one hundred dollars less than similar models.
Why get a Platinum Power Supply?
The rationales for having a platinum power supply fall short in regards to the need of the average DAW or sound designer. While of course need and demand still exists; it also is rare that the demands of the power supply are beyond 15%. It is these lower numbers which become more relevant; and yet, the common method of testing is concerning numbers in the higher threshold uses (i.e: 40%+) for Gamers and High powered PC’s.It only makes sense to instead contemplate how to make your system as efficient as possible in minimal cases while it is using less power. Various platinum power supplies will behave in much different ways unless you read the fine print (and look at the power efficiency curves).SSD Data Integrity
Enterprise SSD offer PLP, (Power Loss Prevention) something that comes with a very expensive price tag. Finding a PCI express card that can do the same thing is ideal. However, finding a good brand is challenging. Many supposed professionals miss the fact that power, whether or not “backed up” can still be prone to voltage ripple. This is because an in-eficient power supply is not producing enough power in low use cases. It is one of the most common reasons for data-loss in non-enterprise SSD’s.

Make Sata Drives Faster
It’s weird that by default, windows 10 (and maybe 11) does not have drive optimization on. It’s pretty basic, just follow the instructions in this video.

SSHD’s Relevent for Audio Systems
Seemingly old school, it’s hard to dismiss the usefulness of having ssd ram mounted to a standard hdd. In the case of working with a DAW, the only thing holding you back with that might perhaps be cache. On the other hand, to use SSD’s for the same task would be unwise because the read/write limitation and mbtf remain problems. It would seem that with this in mind, an SSHD is a viable storage medium for audio samples, and perhaps even Kontakt libraries. It stands to reason though that an SSD is the best place for kontakt libraries, as the drive’s contents would rarely change or fluctuate.

Build a DAW Workhorse
Workhorses are large and reliable. They’re not the fastest and they are dependable. There are newer and older options available. Sometimes, while seemingly the best choice; older parts that would operate in a simpler fashion can be more expensive. The more modern parts and hardware can be eccentric and the only way to override that extra bulk is to add more power. Like an expensive turbocharger for instance and how each method can affect the top speed and the acceleration in different ways.
